Rules and Restrictions

by Catalina Herrera

Apparently here in Denver everything is in order, perfectly clean, cars well parked; they work on time and everyone owns the latest models. Everywhere there are rules and restrictions written on street signs that guide our day-to-day. This arrests my attention and upsets me a little bit. For a Chilean person, this is hard to follow. Of course, I enjoy some order, enjoy cleaning, but I don´t like be asking all the time if what I´m doing is right or wrong. I don´t have space to make mistakes because I´m "new" and I always worry about cops, people’s aim, street signs, etc.... I believe in the common sense and sometimes here I can’t be creative; I can´t be me and that makes me afraid.
